The Information Blanket is a social initiative aimed at increasing pre and post-natal education among new mothers in developing nations and impoverished areas to help decrease the infant mortality rate. It’s both a blanket for infants as well as an information guide for new parents about their child. Issues addressed on the blanket include appropriate sizes for babies ranging in age from one to six months, and information about breastfeeding, immunization vaccinations, body temperature and warning signs of illness.
Plywood for Good: A Benefit for Japan
On March 11th, an earthquake and tsunami devastated Japan, sweeping away coastlines, destroying homes, and affecting the lives of millions of people.
FTC Skateboards has donated 30 blank skateboard decks to Collective Good. We’ve given them to Bay Area artists to use as a canvas for their thoughts and feelings on this tragedy. At Plywood for Good, we’ll auction off the skateboards for charity. Collective Good has partnered with Direct Relief International to donate 100% of the proceeds from Plywood for Good to aid the rebuilding efforts in Japan.
When: Thursday July 14, 2011
Where: Project One 251 Rhode Island Street San Francisco, CA
Time: 6:30 – 10:00 pm
Cost: $10 charitable donation at the door
Please RSVP at: www.plywoodforgood.eventbrite.com
100cameras = Positive Photojournalism
100cameras is a fantastic non-profit that helps empower children living in unjust conditions by giving them cameras to document their lives. The prints are then sold, and 100% of the money is given back to the partner organization. The photos are a great way to raise money and awareness, and empower sustainable growth in these poverty stricken areas. Check out their website to see when one of their photo exhibits comes to your city. The video below is from their recent event in New York.
Pardon our appearance….
Collective Good is in the process of going through a slight remodel. Please excuse the dust while we tweak the site a bit. In the meantime, feel free to check out our Facebook page for more up-to-date information.
The Story of Stuff
One of my favorite videos out on the web right now is Annie Leonard’s Story of Stuff. They’ve done a great job of taking a complex issue and simplifying it down into a totally digestible format. Check out their website for other ‘Story of…’ films.
